One of the materials which characterizes modern time is Plastic. Plastic is to be found everywhere. Life without plastic would be impossible today. Right now, as you read this post you are using plastic, the computer is mostly made of plastic.

As a matter of fact, glass and steel are also synthetic matters. But since they are known to us for thousands of years, we tend to take them as granted. With plastic it is something else. Plastic was invented at 1855 by Alexander Parkes, it was the Celluloid. Since this material is very easy to process and very versatile it is used more and more. Even pipes for the sewage is now made from plastic.

Plastic is on the one hand a blessing and on the other hand a curse.

Imagine, that instead of plastic only natural resources are used. If everyone wants only furniture made from real wood in his home, we wouldn’t have a tree left, considering the Global Population Growth.

Plastic is not the problem in itself. The problem is the loss of plastic, which pollutes the environment. The task is to collect 100% of all the plastic after it has been used and to recycle it. This is the reason Mr. De Rothschild makes his journey in the Plastiki. The plastic which finds its way into the oceans amasses itself in the so called Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Plastic can sometimes also be wittnessed on the beaches as Maritime Debris.

This is the prove, that the plastic is not properly collected and recycled. The recycling of plastic is less energy intensive as all other material.

Have you ever asked yourself, what happens to the plastic chairs and plastic table after they break? And the one way cuttlery?

They are simply being thrown away. Instead of being recycled, the plastic adds just up to a bulk of garbage. Either in the garbage dump, where it takes up lots of space or as free garbage, which pollutes the environment and is harmful to plants and animals.

How is the plastic collection in your city organized? Could a Communal Co-operative possibly take over such a task in the town you live? The first question would be, how much plastic costs in the production? The low cost of oil make recycling not profitable. Still it would be imperative to collect 100% of the plastic. Even the Bio-degradable plastic made of Starch. This would be a terrific Biomass, either for Composting or Biogas.

We have to do everything in our might to make adventure trips like the one by Mr. de Rothschild on the Plastiki obsolete!

*On the 22.October Nancy corrected a mistake in the date when plastic was invented. It seems it was in the year 1862 and not in 1855 as Wikipedia has it. I stand corrected.

    Holllllawaka Max,

I want to add few information, my friends “The Aliens, Savariwakaians Civilization” are not using Plastic anymore because this is was one of main reasons for the climate change problems in X4513 planet, anyway .. let me tell you a secret, they are using pressured colored air as alternative to plastic, its Air but its sealed at the same time and also you can give it any color or strength you want, they call it Avonko.

  38. Nancy

Mr. Max, Let me just correct something important.

Plastic was invented in the year 1862 and unveiled at the 1862 Great International Exhibition in London, not in 1855, don’t trust wikipedia as source 🙂

    • Admin (Max)

      Nancy,
I stay corrected. Thank you very much.
      Max

    • Jean

Nacy is right, Plastic was invented in the year 1862. you need to correct your false information.

      • Admin (Max)

        Dear Jean, dear Nancy,
thank you for your information but I won’t change the text in the post Plastic and Climate Change. What has been published will not be edited! The reason I don’t waant to edit the post is a simple one, if I start changing the posts I might change the whole meaning of the post.

    • Janet

All Doctors think they are something important, I notice a while ago how you answer comments and questions, but what amaze me is the supidity of people commenting, i am one of them for coming back in here.

Nancy, don’t you ever ever ever correct him !! bad nancy. this post is the first chapter of king james bible, change is not an option !! this is the holy words of a loser.

    • Daniel

Man you are crazy, you react like wild bull if someone correct or advice you, i remember the last post when someone “Mandy” suggested the removal of the long poem by mohammed.

You are crazy, i thought your writing is worth reading !! so i thought wrong.

    • Mr. Bay

“What has been published will not be edited!”

      you are hilarious :d :d :d

    • Zainab Krody

You should change the wrong year, this is causing much confusion.

The first plastic was invented in 1862 and was made from biodegradable organic cellulose.

The first man-made plastic was created by Alexander Parkes who publicly demonstrated it at the 1862 Great International Exhibition in London. The material called Parkesine was an organic material derived from cellulose that once heated could be molded, and retained its shape when cooled.

        Dear Zainab Krody,
thank you for the additional information about plastic. But now I think, that I really do not have to change the post. For the reasons I stated in my reply to Chong Reichelt.
        All the best,
        Max

    • Chong Reichelt

Interesting comments from others… hmm, not sure what to think except this site is wierd and for extraordinarily strange or eccentric weirdos including the article author !! what’s the big deal with admitting to be wrong !

you can’t fight the web community, dictatorships doesn’t work online. you are just making bad image of your site, but again “you don’t like to be adviced or corrected”.

      good luck weirdos.
      Chong Reichelt

      • Admin (Max)

        Dear Chong Reichelt,
there is nothing wrong with admitting to have made a mistake. And I did. In the comment of Nancy everyone can see it. My problem is, where to draw the line with changing the content of an article? Even if it is only a date.
About the dictatorship, I think it is the other way round. Some readers think they can tell me what to do, without thinking what it actually means. The Internet is the only media, where the content can be changed whenever the author thinks fit. But this is also the danger of it. I can write whatever I want and the next day I take it off the net? Even if it was slanderous or inciting people to commit murder?
By the way, the mistake was from Wikipedia.
        All the best,
        Max
