In the year 2010 so many incidents
happened which were severe blows to the integrity of nature. Just as an example the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the Red Sludge in Hungary as major incidents. It would take too much space to mention all lesser incidents. But the message is clear, nature can’t be treated as though it is a punching bag.

All incidents, major and minor and over the years add up to one big punishment for nature. That human beings disregard nature in such a way is the result of our Mechanistic World view. And that we are inclined to believe, that god created us in his image and all of nature has to be a tributary to mankind.

“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

Genesis 1, Verse 28.

This sentence says it all. But it is a shadow of the past. Perhaps it was, 2000 years ago, necessary to think in such a way. But today it is in direct contradiction to the needs of today. Today we have to recognize the fact that not mankind is the center of life but that nature is!

Not human beings are the crown of creation but life on planet earth. Human beings are just the jewels in the crown. That is the main criticism of religion. 2000 years ago it was important to put man in the center of life. To create an Anthropocentric view, today human beings have to redefine their place in the world.
The world is neither mechanical nor are we the center of life. Nature is rather a process without rigid laws. Modern science give us a clue in what direction our understanding must develop.
Chaos Theory, Quantum Physics and Nano Technology show us the way. It was always, that science which preceeded society, it determines how society is organized. What characterizes the three afore mentioned sciences is that they show us that life is rather a process and not a mechanism. And they tend towards the small.

The smaller the technology is, the smaller our demands and consumption is the smaller the bad influence of society on nature becomes.

As important as it is to understand this point, we do not have the time until scientific findings settle into society. In order to avoid environmental catastrophes as the oil spill and the red sludge, which were the results of human negligence and the destruction of forests. Nature’s  right to remain undamaged must become part of the global culture. Nature’s Right is an integral part of Human Right! We  humans depend on nature and not the other way round.

The more time we lose, the more urgent it will be to act! At the end of the first decade of the 21. century it is time to define Natur’e Rights, so that we start the second decade on the right path.
