Christmas is supposed the celebration of tranquility and love. Christ was born and had to die on the cross for our sins. But that comes later. Now it’s about family gatherings in the widest circles. Where everyone in the family meets for the feast and everyone presents everyone with gifts. And woe to the neighbor has a bigger and nicer Christmas tree!
I don’t want to be a killjoy, and each is granted a Merry Christmas. But must the material accumulation be so huge? Is not possible one size smaller? And after Christmas comes the New Year 2012, with all the resolutions that no one really keeps. One such resolution could easily be to reduce our consumption patterns. Do we really have to buy all the cheap stuff that hardly survives the week? And then we have to buy the same product new. A good friend of mine use to say, I am too poor to buy cheap. And you know what? He is right. Quality has it’s price. But in the long term one saves a lot of money and the environment is less polluted. One other thing worth considering is, whether it is really necessary to consume so much animal products? Be it meat, dairy or eggs. A Vegan(1) diet is the best way to rescue the environment. And as a bonus you will make your doctor happy. The German ministry of health recommends to eat only once a week meat.
Just the way it was hundreds of years ago. At that time to eat meat was a feast. Not because the people did not like it, but simply because they did not have it. With the accumulation of wealth in the modern society this has changed. People today, at least in the affluent societies, eat too much meat. As a result Obesity (2) becomes a social and health problem. But nor enough with it, the production of livestock demands unproportionally much land, water and energy. With the same efforts enough plant foodstuff could be produced and starvation could be eliminated.
This does not mean, that we will have to become full fledged and dogmatic Vegans. Still a little less of everything helps our wallet and the environment. This is a noble resolution for the new year. And let’s all hope that there will be peace on earth and no natural catastrophes. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2012 to the visitors of Nesseq.com!

With every little thing which seems to be building throughout this subject matter, all your viewpoints happen to be very exciting. Nonetheless, I appologize, because I do not subscribe to your whole suggestion, all be it stimulating none the less. It would seem to everyone that your commentary are not completely justified and in simple fact you are your self not even thoroughly convinced of your assertion. In any event I did appreciate looking at it.
Hi Marine,
rest assure, I am totally convinced about what I am writing. But you, and no one else, do not have to agree with me. On the contrary, I would appreciate differnt views on the subjects I write about.
Thanks a lot and a happy new year.
Max
