On April 20, 2010 the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, killing 11 workers.

It took BP  a long time in which it has not succeeded to stop the oil gush from 1.5 kilometers below sea level.

As the avid reader will note, in the link above, the spill of the oil is mentioned on a daily basis. Finally on July 15. 2010 BP succeeded  to stop the leak. Those were 81 days in which the oil gushed out unchecked and nature took a hard beating.

Not to speak about the economical impact on the people living off the Gulf of Mexico.

The economical and social impact is secondary, since BP and the governments will have to take responsibility and have to pay compensations to the persons concerned. But my worry is, that the compensation will fall short of the real damage and in the end the people, as usual, will pay the bill.

The damage to nature is an unknown factor and nature can’t be compensated. No one knows what the long term results of this oil spill will be and how the damage can be made undone in the long term.

This is exactly the crux of it, no one really knows what one Oil Spill, after the other, does to nature. This is not all, all the other damages human beings inflict upon nature must be included in the equation. An equation of the Unknown!

All the governments of this world and the UNO have to declare the Right of Nature! The right of nature to remain undamaged.

The Right of Nature is part of the Human Rights. Without Nature Human beings can’t exist. Unless we want to live in neighborhoods that are nothing short of Space Stations!

So we congratulate BP to their achievement of stopping this oil spill. But it is no reason for jubilation, because it is only a matter of time until the next catastrophe for nature will happen!

    Hello Dr. Max,

To understand just how dangerous this grand-standing capping stunt is, check out Terrence Aym’s blog:

Doomsday: How BP Gulf disaster may have triggered a ‘world-killing’ event at

Pay special attention to the explanations of the methane threats, the condition of the bedrock, and the warning signs of a methane explosion.

Now we have learned “that seafloor monitoring had detected some kind of seepage ‘a distance’ from the well and found “undetermined anomalies at the wellhead.”

How far is “a distance”? What kind of “anomalies”?

BTW – Apollo 13 survived because we spent years developing contingency plans behind contingency plans behind contingency plans, and everyone knew what they were, and how important it was to follow them.

BP got caught with its plans down — the plans it never had, and still doesn’t. Plans with incredible potential unintended consequences

    Dr. Kris

As always BP is going to do whats cheapest instead of whats best for the world. Shutting in the well is the cheapest solution to the problem instead of the best.
Stock prices climb and costs go down when you are not processing oil in the ships. Some of the cheapo fixes and work around solutions in their Texas City refinery would be just amazing if the weren’t so dangerous. Once the reservoir finds an alternate pathway to the sea floor there is no way to seal the leaking oil and we will have a permanent clean up in the gulf. But hey there’s your job growth numbers to report on ehy! “Environmental destruction causes falsely inflated job growth numbers. country feels economy improves in the third quarter”. Every one is happy and the oil just keeps on coming. Who said a rise to the top wasn’t a good thing…… or is it?

Right-wing supports big oil and wall street. Who supports Main Street? Guess what.. it’s not the conservatives, tea-baggers and other wing-nuts to the right. Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and all the rest of the bozo’s of their ilk pretty much prey upon the uneducated and easily deceived. This is their base. Anyone with half an intellect understands this.

  6. Gerogia H says:

BP has moved to sell assets in Vietnam, Pakistan and the US, to help fund the clean-up cost of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. what a disaster.

  7. Summer K. says:

This whole thing maters a lot, and this is why the well needs to be opened and its flow measured. Pressure is now well below what was expected, suggesting more was spilled than even BP anticipated. The only way to calculate how much was spilled, and the size of BP’s fine, is to open the well and pump the oil into a collection vessel.

My friend Mr. Max, very Great article, and anyone with such contempt for safety regulations should not be drilling in our waters.

When someone complains that it will take too long to do something properly, the traditional response is to ask how long it would take to do the whole thing over again. For high risk operations like this, sure, you could waste weeks overhauling a piece of equipment, but what you’re risking is one of the greatest environmental disasters in our nation’s history.

  10. John M. says:

Does it matter whether “BP knew following the April 20 explosion, that large amounts of oil were spilling”??? Even if BP had relayed the information to our White House, Obama and Michelle were too busy to be bothered. They were bring serenaded by Paul McCartney (Max Fav) … the same Paul who lambasted our previous President while Obama said nothing.

  11. Cogar says:

I wonder if this was a failed effort by BP to have oil (gas) prices high for this summer? I watched as the previous cap was being lowered into position and could see from where I am sitting in western Pa. that device wasn’t going to work. The previous cap had to be a joke. Seems to me the flange holding the irregular/jagged riser could have been removed and another flange with a different connection could have been put in place many weeks ago. What is going on here?

  12. Jack says:

Finally some good news! Sure wish they could have taken off the bent cap and replaced it with the current straight cap over the past month so they collected more oil. Although no way near out of the woods just yet!

  13. Luigi Fulk says:

Sure they can help some birds and clean the oil from them but it’s probably less than 1% of the animals injured. This is shameful. We are called to be good stewards of the earth.
